NY members and Associates,
I am pleased to share that the Region 2 Wounded Warrior fundraiser was very successful despite high winds and some showers. Our NY PGR Help on the Home Front (HOTH) program netted $7,000 for the days events. Special thanks to Region 2 Captains Mark Plyter and Dale Hillegeer along with Bobbie Metcalf and the Blue Star Mothers, NY Chapter 1 who did an outstanding job with this years event. Also it was supported by numerous American Legions, American Legion Riders, VFW posts and others. Too many to list but we will list them on the NY website soon. The highlight for me was the spectacular Blackhawk landing, a few vendors were not impressed as their canopies went barrel rolling, hehe. I am still hopeful a few more regions will have a ride or other benefit this season as we may see more requests for help than we have funds available. Our HOTH program assists our Veterans both past and present, and their families in serious need. If you would like to assist in a Saturday or Sunday fundraiser, please let us know.
Our NY PGR Veteran Recovery program volunteers (VRP) have located and identified several more unclaimed cremains of our forgotten Hero's. There will be a memorial service, escort and interment with the military honors they were promised, on Sept. 24th at Bath National Cemetery. Check the calendar on our NY website for details on this and all upcoming and current missions and events. Due to several negative experiences with the National MIAP program, we are continuing this effort as Patriot Guard Riders NY Veteran Recovery program until we give every last Veteran the dignified burial they were promised. If you would like to assist in this effort, let us know
In closing I am asking you to use our NY website www.pgrny.org for mission info and calendars there for upcoming missions and events. We have many listed and you can send in any worthy events to be posted. Also we are cycling "pictures of the day". Please send in any you have to share.
Of the many worthy causes we support, there is 1 in particular I am asking you to support:
The Gregory J. Harris Military Courtesy room at Syracuse airport benefit.
This courtesy room has had over 15,000 servicemen and woman use it in transit. It is a place to rest with food and refreshments, phones and transports arranged etc. It is staffed with volunteers and needs our help to continue these much appreciated services. The Cicero American Legion Riders Post #787 are hosting a benefit with a nice ride, great food, live music, auctions and raffles etc. Sunday, Sept. 26th. Take a look at the attached flyer (click here for pdf flyer) and come if you can or send in a donation if possible.
Let us never forget those who have and those who continue to serve and sacrifice for our freedoms and way of life.
Thank you very much for doing your part in serving those who deserve it. As always if you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact anyone in leadership.
Respectfully,
Dave Kern
NY State Captain
