NY Members and associates,

I would like to thank all of you who represent the PGR by attending the many missions we are invited to or requested for. The motorcycle escorts and flag lines we provide have an unforgettable impact on the families and communities we serve. You bring an added sense of honor, security, respect and support. Our presence lets the family know they are not alone. We must not forget how important it is for us to maintain a silent and sharp appearance with flags straight. The thank you's and letters of appreciation belong to you.

Flag lineĀ
For the many hundreds of new members I feel the need to state here the basic requirements expected of you on the flag line. Please bring a clean 3x5 American flag on a staff in good condition. If your flag is not in good condition, please replace it and take the old 1 to your local American Legion post.

When standing on line please remember there is no smoking, eating or drinking, other than water, which is fine. Do not attend if you have been drinking alcohol.

Your cell phone must be on silent or vibrate and we do not read, answer or text. Talking must be avoided or kept to a minimum when being greeted by the family or service attendees. If you need a break, you can quietly step out and, secure your flag. Rest room locations are covered in the pre mission briefing or ask a Ride Captain. If you are taking medication, you need to consider the effects of standing for long periods, especially in the sun or heat. Many of you have disabilities or limitations and we appreciate your time spent on line even if it is short. If you notice something inappropriate on line please bring your concern to the attention of a Ride Captain asap.

You may hear commands given when the Hero or family is present, follow what the others are doing until you learn proper response to the commands given. Please DO NOT move your position to block a perceived disruption, without the direction of a Captain.

EscortsĀ
When joining in a PGR motorcycle escort you need to be aware of a few basic concerns. Safety is key to completing a successful escort. Make sure your bike is safe, tires, brakes and lighting in good working order. If you have a flag mounted, be very sure the mount is sound as losing a flag during the escort could cause an accident. We always ride staggered formation unless directed otherwise by a Captain. Be sure to leave plenty of room in front and side as things happen very quick when group riding. If you observe an unsafe rider with us, bring it to the attention of a Captain asap.

Our Active Duty, Veterans and the families and communities of our Fallen Heroes are counting on us to be there for them. We will be, till they all come home!

Sincerely,

Dave Kern
