About the Mission: | Patriot Guard Riders of NY will participate in honoring our friend, our PGRNY Region-1 leader, proud member of the US Army 82nd Airborne Division, and career military veteran, Joseph J. Joyce, who passed away on 14 January 2022. Joe's exemplary active and reserve military service to our nation spanned the period 1971-2005 in the US Army and US Army Reserve. His foreign duty included Germany, Panama, Kuwait, and Iraq. Joe's Army MOS's included: Medical Corpsman; Military Police; Combat Engineer; Drill Sergeant; Senior Drill Sergeant; and First Sergeant. Joe was assigned to many different units during his military career, but he was immensely proud of being a US Army 82nd Airborne Division Veteran. Between his military service and civilian time, Joe had over 1,200 jumps to his credit. First Sergeant Joseph J. Joyce was honorably retired in 2005, and he earned the following awards during his long career: Meritorious Service Medal w/1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster (2 Awards); Army Commendation Medal; Army Achievement Medal w/2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters (3 Awards); Army Good Conduct Medal (2 Awards); Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal w/2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters (3 Awards); National Defense Service Medal w/2 Bronze Service Stars (3 Awards); Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Armed Forces Reserve Medal; Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/”M” Device (Mobilization); Non-Commissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon w/Bronze “3” (4 Awards); Army Service Ribbon; Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait); Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia); Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge w/Pistol Bar; Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge w/Automatic Rifle Bar; Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge w/Grenade Bar; Parachutist Badge; Jungle Expert Badge; Drill Sergeant Identification Badge. Joe Joyce was a highly-respected, long-time PGRNY Region-1 Ride Captain. He was also very instrumental from the very beginning in fostering an excellent relationship with the leaders and staff of the new WNY National Cemetery. Special Covid-19 Mission Guidelines: |
Updated 8 March 2022Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: NYS Guidelines of 2 March 2022, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters. |
Special Information: | PGR will stage in preparation to escort Joe and his family to the WNY National Cemetery, where Military Honors will be rendered for Joe. SPECIAL NOTE: In honor of the relationship that Joe Joyce fostered with the WNYNC, the staff are volunteering their time to make the Cemetery available. KSU at approx. 9:30 AM. The Military Honors are scheduled for 10:00 AM. Following the Honors, PGR may (TBD) provide an escort to the Crittenden Rural Cemetery, where Joe Joyce will be laid to rest with his beloved wife Gail. Rightfully so, we expect this Mission to be well-attended. Please be sure to follow the directions of the Ride Captains to ensure a safe and orderly Mission. Please be prepared with a clean 3x5 American or US Army flag, dress for the weather, and ensure your large flags are securely attached.
