About the Mission:

The family of Vietnam War veteran Gerald P. Esford has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in honoring his life and service. Mr. Esford of Lancaster, NY passed away on 17 November 2023.

Mr. Esford served our nation for 1 year, 7 months on active duty in the US Army Infantry from 1968-1969, with an Army MOS of 11B10-Light Weapons Infantry Crewman. He had a total of 14 months of foreign service, including in South Vietnam, and he was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 52nd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division, Eighth US Army. Mr. Esford was honorably discharged from active duty on 26 November 1969 with the rank of Private (E-2), and he earned the Army Combat Infantry Badge; National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.

Based on the most current COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines: Protect Yourself and Your Family from COVID-19, and CDC Guidelines of 3 March 2022, going forward, the Lead Ride Captain for any mission will be responsible for determining whether PGR members will have to mask up or not. Please ensure that you have a mask with you, should the need arise, and respect the LRC’s decision in these matters.


Special Information:

PGR will be prepared with a respectful flag line for arrival of the family and funeral director, with KSU at 9:30 AM for the escort to WNY National Cemetery, 1254 Indian Falls Rd, Corfu, NY 14036 for the 10:00 AM interment and Military Honors.  Please Note: Gerald Esford is the brother-in-law of Ride Captain Tom Murphy.

Please be prepared with a clean 3x5 American or US Army flag, dress for the weather, and ensure your large flags are securely attached. Thank you for devoting your time to help honor the US Army service of Gerald P. Esford, and to support his loving family.
