Honor Mission

Emory H. Calhoun

US Navy
Cold War Era Veteran

Multi-City, NY - 11/20/2023

Mission applies to the following Region(s):

Region 4, Region 5

About the Mission:

The family of Emory H. Calhoun has requested Patriot Guard Riders participation in his military honors funeral services. Emory, 81, passed on November 15, 2023.

Born in Troy, NY, Emory was raised in Pittstown and was a graduate of Tamarac High School, Class of 1960. He enlisted in the United States Navy during the Cold War era on 6 February 1960, and served as a Seaman aboard the USS Chilton (APA-38), an attack transport ship, during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was released from active duty on 20 January 1963, and honorably discharged at the rank of Seaman on 8 February 1965.

Upon returning home, and for over 30 years, he was the owner and operator, along with his wife, of the Hartford IGA, a family-run independent retail grocery store, where he met and made many friends and business associates while serving the North Country. Emory didn’t like to sit still and, after retiring from the grocery store in 2004, filled his “spare time” by working as a painter at the Mark Harwood Construction Co. for an additional 18 years.
