About the Mission:

The family of Harold "Tom" J. Thompson, Jr. has requested Patriot Guard Riders' participation in his military honors funeral services.  Harold, 86, passed away Sunday, October 26, 2025, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.

Tom graduated from Burr Burton in Manchester, Vermont in 1952. From there, he joined the United States Navy where the next 24 years of his career took him around the world. His almost 9 years of overseas deployments took him to Italy, India, Asia, Japan, Europe, Portugal, Australia and many states right here in the U.S.A.He retired at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 2 on 31 August 1981, and among his awards are:  Navy Commendation Medal, Good Contact Award (5 awards), Battle "E" Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Letter of Commendation, National Defense Service Medal and a Letter of Appreciation.

After retiring from the Navy in 1981, Tom took a position for the next 14 years with General Electric, McDonald Douglas, working on F/A 18’s for the flight program. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, DAVC, American Legion, and National Rifle Association and many local gun ranges.
